I have a 2007 yamaha ar 230 jet boat- The temp light of my port side engin came on the other day for a few min, I turned off the engins and waited. Turned the engines back on and everything was fine for the rest of the day.

This sounds like you just had debris on the water intake to the engine, when you turned he engine off the pressure holding the debris to the inlet was lifted and the debris was allowed to float away. Then when you restarted the engine all was back to normal.
