I have a 1985 90 hp V4 outboard I can get It to start ok

Customer Question

I have a 1985 90 hp V4 outboard I can get
It to start ok when it's cold and get it on
the water but 5 minutes or so after 1/2 to 3/4 throttle it will stall.
After this event the only way I can start it is to use the high idle lever.
After it starts and I drop the idle lever it will stall.
Can't get it going again and runs the battery down

Hello. My name is***** need to do a spark and compression for off. The spark must jump a 7/16" gap on a spark gap tester. The compression must be 80 + psi with no more than 15 % difference between cylinders. This is the first thing we do to get an idea the health of the spark and the compression. If these test good then we know we have a fuel related issue. Post back with engine model number and your findings.
