Have a 2000 Johnson 150 HP outboard on 18' boat. Perpetual

Customer Question

Have a 2000 Johnson 150 HP outboard on 18' boat. Perpetual problem. Starts, will run at 2000 rpm a few minutes, spontaneously rev up to about 3500 rpm, throttle back, and quit. Will sometimes start again, often does not.
My layman's diagnosis is fuel pump. Using regular gas, has automatic oil injection. Two dealers in DuBois Pa., have worked on it, to no avail.
