It's on a metal tag riveted to the block, just above the starter.

This is a replacement engine. sticker says Jaspers 954404
Expert:  Jason replied 2 years ago.
Crap...... Is there any stickers on the engine, on the valve cover or on the spark arrestor that might have the original Mercruiser serial number on it?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
there is a number stamped in the block
Expert:  Jason replied 2 years ago.
What I would need is the original mercruiser serial number. That would be the only thing that would tell me which electrical system the engine has, and what manual to pull. Without it there is nothing we can do online, somebody would have to be in front of the boat to figure it out.
