2006 mercury 115 4 stroke has trouble out of hole, once it

Customer Question

2006 mercury 115 4 stroke has trouble out of hole, once it does plane off and get to full speed it loses power. It has 1 year old gas in tank that i have run down to half a tank, i was thinking of topping off with 93 fuel and adding sea foam. Any other suggestions?

Hi, My name is***** you for letting me try and assist you with your problem.
That's as good a plan as any to start with.
You really shouldn't run gas older than 6 months though. You can burn a hole in a piston or score a cylinder wall because the octane just isn't there.
Hopefully it's not condensation contaminated and causing the issues.
If it were mine I would siphon out as much gas as I could. $4/gallon fuel isn't worth a blown motor.
Fill it with fresh 93 octane with some seafoam and run a tank through.
Make sure you change the spark plugs, check compression, and run it.
You want to make sure you have good compression or all of the other work is just wasted.
Then with new plugs you rule out fouled plugs.
Make sure you check for spark when you change them.
With only 1 yr old fuel it shouldn't be varnished too bad to where seafoam won't eat it and get you going again.
Let me know if you need anything.
