I changed the impeller on my 2002 115 hp suzuki the shift shaft did not slide into the spline in the oil tank as i tightened the bolts a bit it popped and oil ran out of the oil tank . did i destroy it?

it sounds like you either cracked the oil pan or the lower portion of the block. You will need to remove the case, and then use a good flashlight to look up the driveshaft tube and see if you can see where the crack is. the oil pan can be replaced, the block not so much so.
