Hi Don.
The impeller and thermostat need to be changed every other year. If you bought it 3 years ago, it has been due once since you bought it. And since you have no history on it, who knows if it has been due more than the 1 time.
In either event, having the cooling system serviced which would include a new impeller and thermostat would take care of the issue for you.

Chances are it's not something you were are going to be to be able to do. Most people can get them apart, but not get them back together. There is to much to have to line up in order to get it back, and it is one of those things that somebody has to show you in person how to it. I would just recommend having it done. It shouldn't cost any more and 150 to 175. When people do these everybody can get them apart, but everybody gets stuck trying to put it back together.
