Hello, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I will be helping you today. Feel free to reply back with questions as needed.

Trolling speed the engines are going to use next to nothing. 2 gallons per engine per hour.

Now your cruise speed is a different story. The actual speed of 8 to 10 knots is to slow to be considered cruise. Your going to be plowing through the water, instead of planing up on top of it. Plowing is going to make you burn more fuel than planing. Planing cruise rpms are typically in the 3500 rpm range, and the engines will burn 17 to 19 gallons per hour per engine, and that will probably put you in the 17 to 20 knot speed area. But at 8 to 10 knots, your going to be plowing through the water, and the engine rpms are going to be to low, and the engines out of their powerband. You will more than likely burn very close to 15/16 gallons per hour per engine at that kind of speed.

Relist: Inaccurate answer.
Response regarding fuel consumption was way off the mark.

8-10 knots is the trolling speed. There is no way this boat is going to use 15/16 gallons per hour at this speed.

Marine Mechanic: Jason, Marine Mechanic replied 6 years ago

Russell,

I got confused because I thought you were saying your cruise speed was 8 to 10 knots.

Lets forget about speed for a minute, because that is going to depend on your props, and I have no idea what you have for props. And without knowing what you have for props, I have no idea what your rpms are going to be.

But in general. An Albie is a heavier boat. Cruise rpms, 15/16 gallons per hour, per engine. Full throttle, 24/25 gallons per hour, per engine. Put putting around, next to nothing. Just a few gallons per hour per engine. If you can deal with the steering being a little off, if your just trolling around your going to be more efficient just running 1 engine.

.

All fuel consumptions numbers are estimates only. The only way to get real numbers is to install fuel flow meters into the boat, such as floscan.

Hi Russell. I see that you didn't have any follow up questions so I will leave you with this.

Boat builders do not publish fuel economy. The reason being is because there are so many variables that effect fuel economy, if they published any numbers, they would open themselves up for lawsuits left and right. So they just don't do it. Do you remember when Hyndai and Kia got sued last year for their cars not hitting their advertised fuel economy? That kind of lawsuit would fold a boat builder.

.

Now the only way to get true fuel economy is with a fuel flow meter. I have 2 boats and I have floscan's on both of them. If you click this link this is what I have,

http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/product.do?part=159850&engine=adwords!6456&keyword=product_ad_64138&type=pla

They work very well. You would be surprised how much your fuel economy changes over the course of a day, because of the varying winds and tides.

Feel free to reply back if there is anything else.

Thanks in advance,

Jason
