Evinrude/Johnson :

Welcome, this question may need more than a single answer. Please post back with any additional questions you may have.

Hi there

Evinrude/Johnson :

Has the boat and engine had salt water or fresh water use?

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

As far as I know fresh water only.

Evinrude/Johnson :

Is the engine the same year model as the boat?

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Yes Engine and boat same year.

Evinrude/Johnson :

Fresh water is good as any boat of this age in salt water can have additional issues.

Evinrude/Johnson :

Have you been on a water test in the boat?

Evinrude/Johnson :

A water test to check starting, idle quality, and if the boat and engine achive full speed and rpm will tell a lot.

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

No water test yet but will ask for one. The seller told me he had the oil injection replaced. He also said they did a compression check and all cylinders were fine. Why would the oil injecting system need replace if it did not fail first ? Seems like it could have damaged a cylinder.

Evinrude/Johnson :

If this model Lowe has a wood transom be sure and check that it is solid and no sign of rot or cracking yet.

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Transom I will check

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

The boat is aluminum but may have a wood transom.

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

The seller said this part was $800.00 does that sound about right?

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Are you there?

Evinrude/Johnson :

Are you there?

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

yes

Evinrude/Johnson :

Sorry this site is having technical issues I have been posting to you and it was locked out the whole time

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

ok so what do we do

Evinrude/Johnson :

I will not leave you but please stay tuned if we are seperated again

Evinrude/Johnson :

Is your Lowe a pontoon model or a v bottom run about

Evinrude/Johnson :
<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

ok I however I am running short on time

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Vee Bottom

Evinrude/Johnson :

Whatwould you like to do?

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

continue

Evinrude/Johnson :

V bottom is more expensive to fix transon if weak

Evinrude/Johnson :

ok great

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Did you get my questions about the oil injection??

Evinrude/Johnson :

VRO fuel oil pump is common to replace without power head damage

Evinrude/Johnson :

Compression check if ok indicates more than likely all is well

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Ok how do the know that replacement is needed?

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Seller claims he has a receipt stating cylinder checks are all good

Evinrude/Johnson :

If no oil warning come on, if loss of fuel presssure, a running symptom, or if fuel backs up into lower cylinder through pulse hose

Evinrude/Johnson :

Good all cylinders should be within 15 psi of each other

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

OK Do these have a reputation for longevity or no? What should Compression be?

Evinrude/Johnson :

If the pump isoem and through a authorized dealer it has a 1 year warranty

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

motors

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Compression PSI

Evinrude/Johnson :

Good motors ---like any marine engine--maintenance required ---old-bad fuel is biggest problem

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

motors yes 70 Hp johnson good rep or bad?

Evinrude/Johnson :

No stated spec other than all with in 15 psi of each other. Usually over 100 psi on these.

Evinrude/Johnson :

70 Johnson is good

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

over 100 psi OK

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Good rep OK

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

How much do you think it is all worth? Of course I know you have not seen it? Boat is pretty clean

Evinrude/Johnson :

If all with in 15 psi compression of each other yes

Evinrude/Johnson :

Check book values NADA, etc. Pretty old may need to check oldest year in book and some less than that.

Evinrude/Johnson :

All based on condition and repairs or maintenance needed.

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Is $4900.00 to much?

Evinrude/Johnson :

Sounds ok but really hard to fairly evaluate in chat. Compare to others on line and in person

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

OK thanks

Evinrude/Johnson :

It is 21 years old

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Yes . That makes me nervous!

Evinrude/Johnson :

Yes. I hope I have helped please rate me favorably. Can I help with any thing else?

Evinrude/Johnson :

I am still here for you

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

How is the down shaft length determined on these engines. How is it measured?

Evinrude/Johnson :

Have you looked at the newer E-tech Evinrudes?

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

No

Evinrude/Johnson :

They are 20 inch on these models (70 hp)

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Ok but how is it determined?

Evinrude/Johnson :

Transom height determines shaft lenght required

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

OK Thanks

Evinrude/Johnson :

Engine model number designates sheft length

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Ok. Are all 4 stroke engines EFI engines

Evinrude/Johnson :

All new 4 strokes are . E-techs are direct injected 2 stroke

Evinrude/Johnson :

Very good and 6 year warranty now

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

What one is the best?

Evinrude/Johnson :

I like the Evinrude E-techs

Evinrude/Johnson :

2 stroke power less emissions and better fuel economy and less weight

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

2 stroke is better fuel economy than 4 stroke???

Evinrude/Johnson :

Yes the new E-tech is--very high tech

Evinrude/Johnson :

Check out the Evinrude web site when you have time.

<span class="JA_chatAuthorName"Customer:

Ok I guess that about wraps it up for now.

Evinrude/Johnson :
