Resolved Question:

I just purchased a used Polaris SLH 2000 which the battery needed replacing. When I attached the negative cable (after initially attaching the positive), I noticed a "humming" sound that would not go away. It's difficult to pinpoint but it sound like it could be coming from the starter or possibly the electrical box. Any idea what's causing this sound? Also, the MFD won't come on. I'm I doing something wrong or does it needs to be repaired?

Hi There!,
Thank you for letting me try to help you here.
First thing to do is open that electrical box and make sure it's dry.
I would think that humming would be the starter relay.
Verify that and let me know what you find.
While you're at it, try to rotate the motor by hand by grabbing the drive shaft on the back side of the engine.
Take the spark plugs out to make it easier.
I'm hoping for the best but I've seen a million sales of watercraft that "just need a battery" and the motors are blown up.
