What causes hard and slow idle in Evinrude 115VRO?

1984 Evinrude 115VRO: Pushes...

1984 Evinrude 115VRO: Pushes an 18' Lund great at a top end of 40MPH+. Last season it started hard and won't idle even when warmed up. When I throttle back coming into the dock, the engine dies. Think it's the idle adjustment or the low speed jets are clogged up.

Where are the idle or low speed jets in the carburator?

I have a Clymer Evinrude shop manual. Exploded view shows the high speed orifices on each side of he float bowl. Is the low speed orifice in the carb body directly between the two throats?

I have never had this engine apart. I bought the engine new in 1984.

What could be the problem? (or problems?)

Hi my name isXXXXX will assist you.

THese carburetors when they get old the top cover gasket #6 starts leaking and allows air into the idle circuit causing poor idle conditions. The jets in this engine are fixed and this is a 3 stage carburetor #7 idle air jet, # XXXXX off idle fuel jet and # XXXXX high seed jet. The chances are you can just rebuild the carburetors and this will solve your problem. Post back with questions.
