how do i service / bleed the trim/tilt on my Yamaha 225hp 4 stroke 2003? what fluid do i use?
Hi, and thank you for letting me try and assist you with your problem.

OK if the fluid is pink/red you use marine ATF

if it is yellow, which it should be on yamaha, then use mercury or yamaha power trim and tilt fluid

The best way to do this is very simple
first you want it all the way trimmed up
number #74 in the blue box, that is the fill hole
you want the fluid to run out level with that hole
so remove that and i use a turkey baster to add the fluid, it is easy and clean

then replace that screw

then the best way to bleed it is unscrew the manual relief valve, and let it lower by it self slowly

then wait 1 minute and then trim it up using the motor switch

then recheck the fluid level and repeat until you hear no squeaking and smooth transition from trim to tilt function
