Hello, I'm Mike.
Intermittenet water stream can be considered normal at low speeds as long as we know the impeller is good, and I read yours is good.
The water flow can be interrupted at lower speeds by the workings of the thermostat and pop off valve next to the # XXXXX plug.
If you haven't yet remove the tell tail hose at the block and blow both the block fitting and hose out(blow backwards to the water flow) looking for any obstructions.
Another way to get some pieces of mind is to run your hand on the exhaust cover will engine is up to temp at high idle. I should not feel hot or much warmer top to bottom,.

I did verify the outlet tube and it isn' t clugged. My operator manual state that I should not see any decrease in flow. I beleive something still obvously defective. What is the pop off valve? What is the fonction of this pop off valve?

What information do you need
Marine Mechanic: Whitecap36, Marine Technician replied 8 years ago
Sorry I was with another question.
The pop off valve is designed to help keep the block full of water without creating air pockets so the engine can come up to temp with the use of a thermostat.
Were you able to run it and fell the exhaust cover yet? When do you notice this intermittency?

I did ran in some muddy water, I saw the lost of pressure shortly on the same day. Shall I ispect the thermostat and poppet valve for possible blockage?
Marine Mechanic: Whitecap36, Marine Technician replied 8 years ago
Yes that would be ok, but you will likley need new gaskets.
Did you run the engine and feel the side cover yet??

Sorry I did not yet it. is 10:00pm pitch dark outside Tomorrow if it does not rain, after work I will inspect the valves and thermostat then try to run the engine after I have re-installed the lower part of the motor which contain the pump and built back the poppet valve and thermostat. I will keep you posted with the information and confirm payment if it is succesfull

I just removed the poppet and thermostat cover . Both look normal no real sign of deterioration.
With the termostat and poppet valve removed:
I have pushed water from the withness steam outlet water follow the path to the pump
I have tried to pushed water from the pump outlet connection but very little water goes out the withness and none is seened at the thermostat or poppet valve.
Are these situation normal
What should I plan next rebuilt everything and run the engine or inspect more. I will have to get a new gasket before running the engine.
Marine Mechanic: Whitecap36, Marine Technician replied 8 years ago
I might run engine thermostat and pop=off and cover off just to see water pump flow from water pump then I would reassemble with new gaskets and run the engine. Do the hand on the exhaust cover test I mentioned before and let me know what you have.
