Hello I have a 2009 2.2 4-stroke it is new I bought online last season and since I bought it I only have about an hour of run time but the problem is when I give it the gas it stalls if I throttle up real slow I can sometimes get it to run. Welcome,
I will be happy to assist you. If you have a question or need clarification please post back at any time.
Your idle mixture may be a little too lean try richening up the mixture a bit. The mixture screw is on the top of the carb with the spring on it. If the mixture isn't rich enough it will lean the engine while transitioning to high speed. This should fix the problem. If not please post back here and we can go on.

Hi Jeff dont know if you got my e-mail earlier but the only screw is the idle screw but there is a brass tube that sticks out of the carb I can't tell if there is a screw inside to adjust but if you put your finger over the tube the engine stalls if you put your finger over the air intake the engine runs fine and throttles up nice and smooth please advise
Marine Mechanic: Jeff G., Marine Mechanic replied 8 years ago
No I didn't get the message, sorry. That tube is the main nozzle. Fuel comes out of that into the air stream at midrange speed and above. The mixture is the idle mixture. Adjust it about 1/8 of a turn let it run for at least 10 seconds to equalize then try accelerating. If the engine starts popping back off the other way.
From your description all you need to do is richen the mixture a bit. That's what you are doing putting your hand over the carb, restricting the air.

Jeff the only screw is just an idle it dosn't go to a jet it is just a stop
Marine Mechanic: Jeff G., Marine Mechanic replied 8 years ago

I just went through my parts breakdown and I don't list a 2.2 4 stroke. I list a 2.5 or a 2.2 2 stroke older model. Is this an US model?
The diagnosis would be the same though. On top of the carb should be a cover. Under this cover is the idle circuit. Carefully remove the cover and using some spray carb cleaner spray the idle pilot and air jets make sure everything is very clean. Blow out all passages with some compressed air. Put a rag over the carb to absorb any fuel that is expelled.
If the fixed jet is clogged or partially clogged it will do the same.
Take a look and post back. If you can get me a complete model number it would help as well.

Jeff it is a DF 2.5 4 stroke here is a pic of the carb.graphic
Marine Mechanic: Jeff G., Marine Mechanic replied 8 years ago
OK then what I posted in the last post will apply. Remove the plate and clean everything. If you find any gum or varnish remove the float bowl and clean the main nozzle and jets as well.
