This answer was rated:

How long should it take to do a basic rebuild (pull engine, disassemble, have machine shop bore the cylinders, and reassemble) of a mercruiser 5.0 engine? Just a rough estimate.
I will be happy to assist you. If you have a question or need clarification please post back at any time.
The engine R&R is about 4.0 hours
To do the engine another 14 hours
Machine shop services would be additional depending on what they find.
To do the cylinder heads add 11 hours
This does not take into account any parts, frozen or broken fasteners or any other non standard work, such as carb rebuild outdrive repair etc. Also the R&R of the engine will depend on the boat as well and access to the engine. Engine and parts cleaning would be additional.
So a total of 35 to 40 hours would not be out of the question fro a complete engine rebuilding down to the bare block.
Hope this is what you are looking for.
