Hi. I need more history on the motor & control box. How long have you owned the boat & motor & how long has it been like this, did you or someone take anything apart???? Thanks.
Customer
we just rebuilt the boat (1965 glastron jetflite) as for the motor , it came with it . I don't itshistory or wether anybody messed with it before . it runs great ,except its in reverse going forward so can't come up full speed
Hi. What brand control box is it ??? (Omc, Johnson or Evinrude). If it has no markings what color is the box ??? Is it mounted on the side of the boat or at the center console of the boat ???? Thanks.
Customer
It is an omc box. one just like it can be seen in the seloc manual (#1302) on page 9-20.Its mounted on the starboard side. thanks
Hi. You really can't hook things up wrong in the control box for it to do this, I've never seen this but it's worth the checking, make sure the throttle cable is hooked to the throttle & the shift cable to the shifter at the motor. Have someone shift the control box & you look at the cables, the shift cable should move first & then the throttle, or you can remove both cables from the motor & varify that also. The only other thing that I can think of is if the shifter at the motor is hooked up backwards, look at that also. Please try that & get back to me. Thanks.
Customer
Hi Tom. the cables are hooked up correctly but is their anything in the box that could be reversed or turned around? When you shift forward at the box , where its connected at the motor also goes forward. Is this right or should that be reversed? How can the shifter at the motor be hooked up backwards and is that easy to fix? thanks
Hi. I just want to make sure that the control cables are going in the right direction. When you shift the control box into forward the shift cable at the motor goes in (retracts into the cable) & when you shift the control box into reverse the shift cable extends out of the cable. I want to make sure that is right before we go into the shift lever at the motor. Please get back to me. Thanks.
Customer

Hi Tom. Yes that is how the cables operate. Is it possible that the lower unit is a counter rotating unit? Did they have them for a 50hp motor?

Hi. No there is no counter rotating unit for this motor, it must be an issue with the shift linkage hook up.
