Customer: Hi I have a 1989 Yamaha 50 hp outboard motor and when I was running it at the lake all of a sudden lost over 3/4 of its power. It still ran ok at idle but not anything much past that .Its not missing and will starts up good ,when i got home I checked the compression all three cylinders had 115 psi . My oil tank was full I also checked the low oil sensor that cuts power when the oil gets low and the circuit was open like its supposed to be . Thanks for any help. Chris.

Hello. It certainly sounds like the "black box" brought it down, so the question is why. The only way you re going to determine that for sure is to get it on a diagnostic computer to check the codes - it's not a do-it-yourself task, unfortunately.
