Clunking noise when I go over bumps

Mechanic's Assistant: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?

For a few months. I though it was struts, I replaced both, replace lower control arms and replace stabilizer ends. still getting the noise

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car?

2009 BMW X6 with adaptive drive

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your X6 yourself? What have you tried so far?

I replaced the struts ($1300 each), I replaced the lower control arms ( i could feel a bit of play in them), I replaced the track rod assemblies ( boots were torn). Yes I am doing the work myself

thanks - what part of the car is the noise coming from?

Front right mostly. Sometimes both sides.

Please do not forget to click a positive rating as this is the only way I receive credit for my answer, thank you

I would suggest checking the front drive shaft u joints and also the front thrust arm bushings. these are common to cause a clunk on this model.

Please let me know if you have further questions. Please do not forget to click a positive rating as this is the only way I receive credit for my answer, thank you. Best wishes with your vehicle...

Front thrust arm bushings were just replaced. I called them lower control arms by mistake

I checked the U Joints. No problem there. Wouldn't that also be a problem during acceleration and deceleration? The control arm bushings were intact when I replaced the thrust arms. This sounds like a metal to metal thud.

Hi, my name is***** would recheck the installation of the front strut mounts and bushings and make sure they are assembled correctly. The most common cause of a clunk over bumps, especially over potholes, would be the front strut mounts. Loose or worn ball joints will also cause clunking as well as the sway bar mounting bushings. Make sure all of your control arms are tight. If you have not replaced the lower control arms I would inspect the ball joints in those arms. If all arms were replaced make sure that they are all tightened properly. Don't forget the upper control arm ball joint. I've replaced the center sway bar bushings for clunking as well.
