How much battery voltage do you have both with key off and with the key on start?

It should be at least 12 volts with key off and not drop 9.6 volts with the key on start.

battery is ok
BMW Mechanic: Beemer_Werke, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

What were the voltages?

Ask Your Own BMW Question
Customer reply replied 11 months ago
im not sure, he just said they were ok. If its not the battery, whats the next thing to check
BMW Mechanic: Beemer_Werke, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

When he said he had power to the starter motor, is that where the big battery cable hooks to it or also where the wire comes from the ignition switch and relay for the solenoid?

Ask Your Own BMW Question
Customer reply replied 11 months ago
where the main cable is
BMW Mechanic: Beemer_Werke, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

Ok, first check this fuse, #f105 in the fuse holder.

Ask Your Own BMW Question
Customer reply replied 11 months ago
which fuse holder, in eng bay?
BMW Mechanic: Beemer_Werke, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

See if there is a #105 there.

I believe that is it, right rear under the hood.

BMW Mechanic: Beemer_Werke, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

Someone else say it is behind the glove box.

Ask Your Own BMW Question
Customer reply replied 11 months ago
ok, will check. whats that fuse for?
BMW Mechanic: Beemer_Werke, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

Shown here, although it doesn't show 105 but does show 104 and 107.

BMW Mechanic: Beemer_Werke, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

The ignition switch and the immobilizer, seen in this wiring diagram.

Ask Your Own BMW Question
Customer reply replied 11 months ago
is 104 and 107 definitely behind the glove box?
BMW Mechanic: Beemer_Werke, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

you have an owners manual?

I tried here but it didn't work, https://www.bmwusa.com/owners-manuals.html

Customer reply replied 11 months ago
i have the manual
BMW Mechanic: Beemer_Werke, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

Then it should show where the f105 fuse is and the fuse holder.

Ask Your Own BMW Question
Customer reply replied 11 months ago
i will check
BMW Mechanic: Beemer_Werke, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

Ok. If and when you find that fuse and it is ok, next would be to find the starter relay and put your finger tips on it and feel if it clicks one time when the key is turned to start.

Ask Your Own BMW Question
Customer reply replied 11 months ago
the manual isnt any help. somewhere it says there is fuse section in the load bay behind the spare wheel. Do you think it might be there? when i find it, i will find the starter relay, do you know where that is?
BMW Mechanic: Beemer_Werke, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

I don't know where the starter relay is, the manual doesn't say.
