As long as the fluid is full, it's okay to be water instead of coolant. You do need to check the thermostat, water pump for worn fins, blockage in the radiator and radiator cap. Any of these can cause overheating.

Thanks, Ron

could it be the water pump
Expert:  rpmdiag replied 11 months ago.

Yes it can, if the fins are worn out, it won't push the fluid fast enough.

Thanks again and please remember to rate me 5 stars and keep this link in case you need me again later on.

the right track, which we always do. We can’t hear, see, smell or
touch your vehicle from where we’re at, so your understanding of
that is greatly appreciated. There are no magical or miraculous
answers, but we do our best to guide you in the right direction.
