JA: How many miles are on the car? Have you been losing oil or coolant?
Customer: 136,000 oil and coolant...great question.
JA: What year is your 540i?
Customer: 99
JA: Are you fixing your 540i yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: nothing...repair service
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: not at the moment.

okay

White smoke indicates that there is coolant getting into the combustion chambers from a head gasket or cracked head. You may not notice much coolant loss because it only takes a couple of shot glasses of coolant in the chambers to produce the smoke.

You need to do a compression/cylinder leak down test to confirm this.

Thanks, Ron

Ron, I'm not a mechanic by far...especially a BMW mechanic. All other research I have conducted discussed a PCV or CCV replacement. Thoughts. I'd like to go inexpensive repair check first.
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Ron, are you there
Expert:  rpmdiag replied 10 months ago.

The PCV may fix the oil consumption if the PCV system is plugged, but NOT the coolant usage.

I gave you the absolute best way to find out for sure in my last post. We don't want to start fixing things that ain't broke.

Thanks again and please remember to rate me 5 stars and keep this link in case you need me again later on. Also, please allow me some time to reply back to you.
