Customer Question

It's a 535i 2008 and it won't turn over to start. It's battery is new and was checked at the location and the battery is fine. The lights and air work.
JA: Does the battery look like it's leaking? And does it have a strong smell -- like sulfur?
Customer: I don't know I'm about ready to go look at it for a friend.
JA: Are you fixing your 535i yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Well I'm not going to fix it probably but just look at it so see if it's something simple. But when talking to the owner she said the machanic said it could be the starter
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: No

I will provide an honest answer. I trust this will be appreciated. Please remember that a low rating PUNISHES me for being honest and that I receive nothing for my time until a positive rating is clicked.

even if you are on a subscription plan with multiple or unlimited questions you must still CLICK ON a positive rating although you will not be charged anything additional beyond your subscription rate
Thank you for your attention to the rating requirement.

the simple things to try are:

jump start
check ALL fuses
unhook battery for an hour to reset all systems
try starting in park and neutral
rock the car back in forth in park gently
try a second key
lock/unlock a few times mechanically with the key in the door
ensure brake pedal properly depressed

the issue is likely a failed starter or issue with the immobilizer system, but the above are worth checking

Please let me know if you have further questions. Please do not forget to click a positive rating as this is the only way I receive credit for my answer, thank you. Best wishes with your vehicle.
