I changed the starter on my 2007 525i and now have a fault

Customer Question

Hi Pearl, I changed the starter on my 2007 525i and now have a fault stating "gear can be engaged without depressing brake". When driving it seems to be in a single gear and doesn't want to shift out of that gear.
JA: How old is the transmission? Have you checked the brake switch?
Customer: Original transmission but no issue prior to this. Haven't checked the brake switch.
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I haven't done anything yet, wanted to research first to confirm that it could have been caused through the work I did.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: not that I can think of

Hello, my name is***** sounds like you may have caused an issue with the transmission position sensor. If it was moved or taken off then this will occur causing the computer to not detect the correct gear position. This needs to be rechecked. If it is fine let me know and we can continue from there.

Thanks. I'll go through it again and see what I can find.

I am sorry it took so long to get back with you. Did you happen to locate the issue? If not let me know and I will help you further.
