Customer Question

I have an 00 BMW 740i with M62. It just rolled over 150k today. I maintain this car well, but when I started cold this afternoon, after I drove 100 feet, I lost power, and got a wicked shaking. I checked the oil (I've had some slight smoke on cold morning starts - OSV or valve guide seals; I've replaced the VCGs and upper timing cover gaskets as well as PCV) and the level was fine. I tried cranking it again, same shaking/scary sounding noises so I shut it off. I've checked MAF (disconnected) and it cranks, won't start. I borrowed a Peake reader and got one code: 0F8C - Map controlled thermostat circuit/control. The wiring on the themo looks fine, but I haven't read the voltage or resistance yet. I can see where that will cause the MCP to prevent startup, but what about the shaking/noise?
