the drivetrain malfunction warning is not specific and can have many different underlying triggers
the only way to verify the underlying cause is to have the fault logs read from the car using a BMW diagnostic computer.
the most common trigger of this warning is a fuel pump failure or other fuel system issue, but again, the faults will need to be scanned to determine the exact cause
you can drive the car to the shop as long as it is currently running okay - you will need to use your judgment. if the car is really struggling, making noise, a lot of smoke, overheating, do not drive it
