323i: my exhaust camshaft position sensor,got,caught

Hello my exhaust camshaft position sensor,got,caught with one of the pulleys and got all the wires ripped i taped them,together but im still getting a p1397 code is it possible it could of caused a short and damaged the sensor also does that make the car loss power my rpms wont pass 3000 rpm while reving in neutral
