i have a 98 323i with 289000 miles on it. it sets a cat code after replacing the cat twice!!!and rear o2 sensor twice!!!with worldpac parts.. the fuel trim is between +7 and -7 % on the freeze frame data when the code sets!!.at the rear 02 sensor i have 5volts on sensor signal wire with rear 02 unpluged and can use sensor ground to ground signal wire and get 0volts. the sensor ground wire has about .05 volts with connector unplugged.. the heater power supply wire has 12volts with connector unplugged and when plugged in with engine running the heater wire has about 5volts .. i dont have gas analyzer.. what in the world should i do to check this out.. i cant pull any more hair out!!!

iauto8 :

If you are only getting a code for the catalytic converter then the o2 sensors are ok. The problem will be the cat. Did you use the 50 state CARB approved Cat or 49 state? Aftermarket cats are a pain. Some work some dont. I have had fairly good luck with the DEC brand your using. If you got 49 state , see if Worldpac will upgrade to 50 state cat. Chris.........

Customer: what is the difference between the 2 cats? should i use 50 state on all makes for better luck?
iauto8 :

Yes use the 50 states cat if available. The difference is any cat with a CARB # XXXXX it was tested by CARB. This means it must meet OEM specs and someone is actually checking them. The 49 state or any CAT without a CARB # XXXXX XXXXX subject to any third party testing and is up to the manufacturer to determine if it will work. The reason they are often cheaper is they use less precious metals in the substrate and often are quite a bit smaller. This is ok on some cars , but on others will not clean up exhaust enough to satisfy the computer. Chris......

Customer: Thank you
iauto8 :

No problem. Good luck. Chris.....
