How do you remove transfer lock cylinder from 1 glove box lock assembly to another

Thanks! I was able to finally remove the cylinder and reinstall it in new assembly but the trunk release still does not work from the remote or the internal trunk release button near hood release. The glove box has 3 lock positions and I think I tried them all. Trunk lock appears to only have horizontal position. I don't know what the next step is to get the trunk release to work via remote or internal switch. When I hit remote button to lock and unlock, you can hear something going on near trunk - sounds normal actuator noise. Other wise remote works fine. Trunk only opens with key turn not combo of key turn and then squeeze of switch above license plate...

Do I need to reinitialize or reprogram remote? Do I need to replace relay for locks behinf fuse panel? Do I need to replace trunk release? Any other suggestions?

removed key assembly and took it apart. Reassembled in vertical position.

removed latch cannot see any bad connections or worn wiring. Tried release, now cannot open trunk at all.

Was thinking that I could access emergency release of trunk through convertible boot.

Must order lock - but can it be keyed to match ignition?

May need to order other stuff - if you recommend.

Just laid off and need to conserve $$$ but get the trunk working if I have to sell M3.

If you suggest multiple parts needed, can they be done incrementally or if one does the trick and others not needed - will other parts be returnable?

I've been researching the parts online for costs. In the course of my research, I found other used lock cylinders that accept some sort of microswitch or electrical plug at the cylinder in addition to the cable (like a bike handbrake). The one in my car a 2002 M3 convert did not have the electrical connection at the cylinder. There was an electrical connection at the release or latch. With this in mind, I am wondering how the latch would know if the cylinder was in valet or not.

When I disassmbled the cylinder, it just did not seem as if it was designed to turn to multiple positions like the glove box lock - vertical and horizontal in 2 directions. It was weird.

I am not the original owner and I am thinking that 1 of the prior owners had to replace the cylinder and got the wrong one. Is it possible that BMW did not set this vehicle up for the remote release?

My car fax did not indicate any major accident in which the rear of the car or the trunk would be replaced / rewired without the microswitch.

As far as getting itnto the trunk. Can I get in thru the convertible boot with the top partially up? Or is there another way to access and open it?

Once I open the trunk, I'll remove the lock cylinder and flip it sideways so that I can open it with the key until I get the parts.

Is there a good source to order the keyed lock cylinder at discount?
