2003 Z4..approximately 7 gallons (14.2 gal tank)..fuel gauge..more gas

Customer Question

I have 2003 Z4 when fueling the tank will only take approximately 7 gallons (14.2 gal tank) and the fuel gauge is at one half. I've tried to put more gas in but the tank seems to be full. Any suggestions?

Good morning- SOunds like one of the level sensors is not working. The design of the fuel tank is called a saddle tank.It basically has two sections that hold fuel,so it needs two sensors. When one sensor fails the gauge only sees one sensor therefore,1/2 tank, even when both sides are full. There are ways to confirm this using test steps in the instrument cluster, also removing the suspect sensor and checking the resistance.Hope this helps.
