2002 BMW: s engine locked up at around 71,000 miles

Resolved Question:

2002 BMW 352i- Car''s engine locked up at around 71,000 miles. The engine locked up after the car had been stolen. While the car was stolen, the thief apparently "ragged the car out." About 300 miles were put on the car by the thief. After the car was recovered and after the engine locked up, it was discovered that there was sludge in the engine. In the year and a half before the car was stolen, the car had its oil changed at 67,314 miles, 60,951 miles, 55,733 miles and 46,984 miles. The last oil change before the change at 46,984 was at 13,620 miles, and was done a little over two and a half years before the 46,984 change. Would the engine have locked up because of the sludge? Would the sludge have developed b/c of being ragged out for 300 miles or b/c of the failure to change the oil for about 33,000 miles and two and a half years? Thank you

i cant say without seeing the vehicle but not changing the oil for 33000 miles will cause damage . the sludge most likely caused by the lack of oil changes and probably caused premature oil pump , crankshaft and connecting rod bearing failure . i wouldn't say that " ragging "on a car for 300 miles did the damage unless it was ran with very low oil or was overheated , although the oil pressure light may have been on during that 300 mile ragging
