Good Morning.........I have a US Historical Society "Texas Paterson" 1837-1840 .36 caliber Pistol that I would like to sell but don't have a clue what it's worth. It's in mint condition with all the accessories and Cherry Wood display case and the "Paterson Colt Pistol Variation" book. Can you give me some guidance? Thanks in advance.

Hi Jim.........On the top of the barrel, It's etched "Samuel Colt Texas Paterson". And on the grip, it's stamped "169" in 2 different places. It's a fairly low number since there were only 1000 made.

ok great. Let me do some research on this and I will get back to you when I know more.

Ask Your Own Blue Book of Guns, Firearms Appraisals Question

Thank you for your patience on this. I have been searching through completed auctions to try to get a feel for the value of your Paterson.

When looking through completed auction sales, I usually like to try to find 5 examples to get the best feel for value. In this case, I was able to find 5 exactly....

2010 - $3,163

2010 - $2,000

2012 - $2,090

2015 - $1,380

Unknown date - $3,495

My original thought was that $1,800 to $2,000 would be an appropriate value. I think now I'd bump that up slightly to $2,000 to $2,200. I think that the $1300 and $3100 - $3400 values are anomalies of low bidder interest, and bidding wars, respectfully.

Of course, the only true test of value would be to put them up for auction.

What do you think of these numbers?

Jim
