I have just gotten a Western Field .22 cal rifle, and at the range, I am hitting about 6 inches to the right. How do I adjust for this on the rear sight?

Expert's Assistant: How can the Gunsmith help you with your firearm? Please tell me everything you can so the Gunsmith can help you best.

Western Field .22 cal rifle hitting jus right of center at the range. How do I adjust the rear sight?

Expert's Assistant: Is there anything else the Gunsmith should be aware of?

I removed the rear sight to clean the barrel, then re-attached it before going to the range.

What kind of sights are on the gun?

Ask Your Own Blue Book of Guns, Firearms Appraisals Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Open sights: rear has a sliding elevation that has a thump slider running rear to front of barrel to just height of trajectory
Firearms Expert: ProShooter, Firearms Instructor replied 6 months ago

Ok, well the general rule of thumb is that the rear sight should be moved in the same direction that you wish to move the point of impact of the bullet. So, if the point of impact is to the left of the target, and you wish to move the point of impact to the center, then move the rear sight to the right.

Does that make sense?
