Ask Your Own Blue Book of Guns, Firearms Appraisals Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Tom,
This is not a Pigeon Grade Super from the mid 80's.
It was manufactured in the mid 70's.
Pictures of this type are on two pages (242, 268) of R.L. Wilson's book "Winchester an American Legend".
It is shown with the French version of Winchester's catalog for 1976.
This 30" Trap model has fixed chokes, no tubes.
The gold inlays are quite different from the later Presentation Grade 101's. The tail feathers are all wrong.
The side panels on the butt stock are checkered but without Fleur-de-lis.
The document I got with the gun suggests that these were indeed presented to individuals by Winchester.
Cody Museum said the PK serial number was for Presentation-Kodensha.
Any help?Thanks
Firearms Expert: Tom, Associate Degree replied 6 months ago

Hi,

The serial number dates to the 80's and this is the only gun I can come up with. If someone ordered a custom gun there will be no listings for it and it is impossible to get any records.

Blue book lists all prefixes and has the "PK" as pigeon grade.

All Winchester records were turned over to BATF when they closed in 2006. I have talked to the Winchester / Browning historian a few times and all they have on Winchesters is in their memory from what they have told me.

There is a European version which is a "Model 501 Presentation Grade" that was made from 1984 to 1987. This gun sounds more like the one you have. My underestanding is that the 501 is a European version of the 101. It was made in 12 gauge only in Trap and Skeet configurations. It has presentation grade "crotch" walnut, is highly engraved, has gold inlays and silver wire borders on the perimeter of the receiver.

100% on this gun is $4000
