How can I help my cat who licked bleach cleanser?
Posted in: Pets
Q: My cat just jumped into my bathtub while I was cleaning it with a foaming bleach cleanser. I immediately got her out, but before I could wash her paws off she started licking them. I don't think she could licked very much, but I'm panicking. I washed her paws with a wet rag almost immediately after she licked one of them. Should I induce vomiting or will she be OK?
A: I would say there is no indication to induce vomiting. It sounds like a minimal exposure, for sure.
I would not do anything, feed her differently, or give medications. I would only advise to keep an eye out for any gastrointestinal problems like vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite.
If you really wanted to do something, you could give some Pepcid A.C. antacid to help settle the stomach. Although not easy to give cats pills, you could give one-fourth of a 10mg tablet every 12 hours.
