May I know with whom I am talking to?
Hello Stephanie, I understand how worried you are about Maude. I am here t offer you some advise and i know she will be fine in no time.
Has Maude been laying?
Okay. Good to know, please give me some time while I type out a response on how to care for Maude.
Yes I did, I will send in a response to your concerns.
Separating her from the flock is the first line of action and I am glad you did that first. It is easy to check an egg bound bird. You can raise gently and look at her butt area, it is usually more enlarged than normal. For her being lethargic, with her tail down and not walking as she should, since she has been separated, ensure her space is warm and check her body carefully to ensure there are no wounds or injuries.
You can place a lubricant just inside and around the vent to help her pass the eggs. Place her in a dark, warm secluded place. Then you may need to improve her diet but adding more vitamins and minerals.
Vitamins and minerals for poultry birds, anyone will do just fine. You can also run a warm bath for her and ensure she has lots of drinking water. She needs to stay rehydrated.
Does my response make sense to you? Do you have additional questions or concerns?
Do the bath without the epsom salt, wipe dry, and try to lubricate as earlier stated. Keep hydrated and place in a dark secluded space. Infection should be on the list of your worries now. Getting her comfortable should be it now. So, follow the outlined directions and she will be fine. Vitamins and minerals will do her much good. Once her immune system is okay, then the infection will not be a thing.
Epsom salt is a laxative and so ingestion will give faster results than just fixing it in a bath. Which i won't advise either poultry. Lubrication will give a faster result for an egg bound bird.
Does my response make sense to you? Do you have additional questions or concerns?
Great. She will be fine.
