I recently got backyard chickens. New coop, run, etc. I had 2 silkies(21 weeks), 2 Isa Brown(23 weeks) for about 3 weeks with no problems. Last week I added to new young hens (Rhode Island Reds, about 19 weeks old). Within a couple days all of them are now gurgling and sneezing. I believe it started with the new RIRs, but it happened so quickly I'm not 100%sure. The Isa Browns seemed to get it the worst very quickly, but possibly they got a bit cold one night as I had to isolate them due to a bit of bullying of the new hens, and the next day they were gurgling fairly bad and had stopped eating yesterday, and just sat around. Now one day late, today they are eating and drinking normally again, and the gurgling sounds better. I did put them in a heated space for the night. They also seem to be acting close to normal. It is the weekend so the farm stores are closed, so can't get any medicine until tomorrow. So gave them a small amount of garlic, turmeric, oregano, and cider in a litre of water. They did drink some but don't like it very much. Is there something I should do tonight or recommendations to try and get from the farm store tomorrow? I am surprised how quickly it came on to all of them and how quickly it "seems" to be getting better. … read more
