Customer Question

I found my young parakeet at the bottom of his cage, seemingly very alert with eyes open, but extremely weak. I suspect he may have been injured by my small dog early today (no bleeding or obvious trauma), but did not show any signs of injury all day, and was quite active and eating well until this evening.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, I'm in a small town without avian vets.

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you today. I do apologize that your question was not answered before. Different experts come online at various times; I just came online, read about your wee one’s situation, and wanted to help.Again I do apologize that my colleagues could not aid you sooner, but can you tell me: How is he just now? How long has he been weak?Any breathing changes, increased breathing noise or tail bobbing? How was he injured? Did the dog get ahold of him? Knock his cage over?
