Customer Question

Hi! I have a 10 year old female eclectus, Penny. She started laying eggs around age 8. She has just finished laying for this year, 2 eggs. She is still acting like she needs to lay again, but isn't . She makes a lot of chirping and acts like she's trying to feed her toy bell when eating? Is she in danger? She won't have anything to do with a nesting box, so she uses her feed bowl. Any info would be appreciated! It's like she's "stuck" in her cycle? She's never done this before. I really don't know how else to explain it?

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you with your wee one today.

Does Penny have a mate or is she laying dud eggs?

Is she straining to lay just now?

Can you feel any eggs if you gently palpate her abdomen?

Have you been supplementing her calcium?

How is her appetite? Any weakness or lethargy?
