Customer Question

our cockatiel has bad case of diaroeha and is constantly pecking his breast and created
a hole in his feathers-don't know if they are related

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. The two symptoms may very well be related. Giardia - a protozoan parasite in cockatiels - perhaps disproportionately to other birds - can cause gastrointestinal distress which then prompts affected birds to peck where it's painful. Have Banana checked by an avian-oriented vet (please see here: who can test Banana's feces for the presence of Giardia as well as other parasites and then prescribe the appropriate drugs.

Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

I'm just following up on our conversation about Banana. How is everything going?
