Greetings, I am Dr. Pat. I have worked with birds for many years. I will do my best to help you.

Yes.

It would be best if the birds could be babysitted elsewhere for 4-10 days. There is no exact time limit on it, but if it smells, there are still volatile petrochemicals in the air. Better to be safe than sorry.

Sometimes it is not even the asphalt itself, but the primer chemicals that go on first, the solvents in the paving material, and the sealer. And most of these do not even have a real odor but are toxic to birds anyway.

what if they have no place to go?

have you tried your local bird vets? they often board birds. Do you have no friends or family that can help?

There are pet-friendly hotels as a last resort.

If you opt to leave them at home, you need to be very vigilant and establish contact with a bird-experienced vet, with after hours contact numbers--NOW-- before the crises arises.

I cannot in clear conscience offer any alternatives other than moving them out for a few days. The consequences are too dire and I do not want to be responsible for a bad answer that leads to the death of ANY bird.
