Customer Question

I have a peahen that is lethargic, sleeping and yawning. When I just fed, she picked at some food and yawned as she tried to swallow. I don't know her age as she just showed up at my ranch about 8 months ago. She did have a couple of clutches of eggs this year that I hatched out in my incubator. All my other peacocks, chickens, turkeys and guineas are fine.  So many hours later ... even though your service says that bird vets are online - nothing ...

I apologize that no one has responded to your question earlier. Different experts come online at various times; I just came online and saw your question. I am not a vet, but a biologist with a special interest in birds. If you'd like me to try to help, some additional information will be useful.

Do the peacock's feathers look fluffed up or unkempt?

Has her condition changed in the last 24 hours?

Has she eaten anything, or only picked at food?

Is she tame enough that you could catch her?

Thank you.
