Unfortunately the penguin type stance you are describing, will often indicate an egg bound hen or one with egg peritonitis.
Egg binding can sometimes be relieved by giving the bird a bath in warm water to help relax the vent. Or by placing the bird in a cage which is placed above a bucket of steaming water. They should hopefully pass the egg in a couple of hours.

If she has egg peritonitis, where some egg has traveled into the abdominal cavity, causing inflammation, unfortunately there is not much you can do for these hens. Antibiotics and abdominal lavage has helped some.
