Customer: I have a parakeet that has been bullied by another parakeet in the same cage. It looks like the parakeet is hurt. Her tail feathers have been snipped or pulled out and she her wings are not up against her body like usual. She is still eating and drinking well, but isn't flying. I plan to take her to a vet this week, but am worried about her. I've taken her out and put her in a cat traveling box with a towel at the bottom, and food and water. The bully has been removed from the communal cage and is in another cage. We suspect he killed another one of our parakeets that we found dead at the bottom of the cage. Our little girl looks pretty bad. I want to get her help, but I don't want to lose our other animals. They're all loved and taken care of. Should I be concerned about losing my other animals, because our little parakeet is in such bad shape? I don't want to lose all our babies. I sthere hope for our parakeet if both her wings are broken?....

thanks for using JustAnswer.com, I'm Dr. Dan and I'll try to help you.

When you say she looks bad what specifically do you mean?
Do you mean her feathers are beat up or that she is lethargic, fluffed, sleeping too much and not active?

Dr. Dan
Yes, exactly. She has been lethargic, fluffed, sleeping too much and definitely not active. Her wings hang down and one of her toes is extended and doesn't hold onto the perches. Her longest tail feathers aren't there because our bully bird likes to pull on the other birds' tails. She's in bad shape. Sorry this response is coming in the morning, but it took over an hour to get a response to my question and I went to bed. Thank you.
