Customer Question

This past weekend I had severe, watery diarrhea for about 24 hrs. No pain, stomach cramps or fever. I also started my period. I took about 3/4 bottle of Pepto Bismol through the day and it finally stopped yesterday. Around 3:30 this afternoon I started getting bad pain in my right side upper abdomen and it just kept getting worse. I am unable to do anything but lie down. As soon as I move into a standing or sitting position the pain gets worse & is now accompanied with nauseousness and goes from my ribs down to about my belly button line. Also I take diamox which I just found out has a major interaction with pepto. Could this be related? Is there anything I can do to relieve this pain?

Dear customer,

Thank you for the question.

It is unlikely that the symptoms that you are having at present are due to the interaction. Such an interaction is very rare and when it occurs will not present with abdominal pain.

Your pain is very severe and since this is disabling you I would recommend going to an urgent care clinic or to the ER. This can be due to gallbladder stones and you should have an ultrasound imaging study of the abdomen to detect this condition. Even an intestinal infection can cause such a pain and you may need an antibiotic and smooth muscle relaxant medications (that are available with a prescription) to relieve this pain.

Take care.

Until I can get to the er (current wait is 6 hrs) will ocycodone hcl help with pain?
Bariatric Physician: Dr. Ravoof, Doctor replied 6 months ago

Dear customer,

Thank you for replying.

Oxycodone may help in pain relief. However, you should not take this without guidance from your doctor or if you have not taken it before since a few individuals may have an allergic reaction to this medication. You can instead take Tylenol and Mylanta or Gas-X. You should also take an acid-reducing medication such as Prilosec or Zantac.

Take care.
