Often when I eat something...

Often when I eat something, it just knocks me out - I have to lay down and sleep, have to. I never know what is going to cause this , what food ? I never know. Sometimes I can comfortably eat a decent , small meal and be fine, usually not, more than a few bites and I am miserable . I have a hard time with this. I think I am fine, I feel ok, take the next bite and I am not ok. I am trying to discipline myself to only eat a few bites at a time but - I usually eat more because I Think I am ok. Sometimes I am , often I am not. Is this common for gbp patients ?

Do you experience any diarrhea or abdominal pain immediately after eating?

Do you experience sweating after eating?

No diarrhea, no pain, no sweating - nothing, just like I am knocked out, have to lay down, often sleep. That's if I eat more than a few bites no matter what. Some times its not bad, ok, but often its not ok. I have recently changed my diet drastically to a vegan/ vegetarian diet and yes, I do feel much better. Then - shock - we had a breakfast of corned beef hash with 2 eggs on top.. Delicious but that totally knocked me out , I went to bed and slept for a couple hours even dreaming interesting dreams. I didn't feel bad, no pain, but wow. That reaction was unexpected. I had slept well all night long, always do, I love my bed, love going to sleep, never a problem there. I have to wonder if other g b p patients experience this.

This is something that can happen very commonly after GBP surgery.

There is a condition that is called as dumping syndrome which happens especially when you have eaten a relatively heavy meal.

It does settle in due course of time.

However, I would recommend that you should be seen to make sure that your blood tests are fine, particularly if you have not had a blood test recently.

I was advised that the dumping syndrome occurred when sugar was ingested and that it could cause diarrhea and/or vomiting. I don't experience that. I have labs done at regular intervals and I am the healthiest person on the planet according to the blood tests. Still . When I eat, not all the time, and I never know what food may or may not cause this, I get so sleepy that I have to lay down and often do sleep. I have not been able to 'know' in advance when I need to stop eating something . I think I am fine, I feel ok, then it can hit me that I am not ok, I feel ill, and have to lay down . I hate this. I have told myself that I have to control myself not to eat more than 5 bites of anything and wait and see but - when I am eating and it seems just fine and I feel ok, I somehow forget and think I am ok to eat another bite or two. If I really over eat anything of course I get very sick and I still have done that. I hate that too. I don't know what triggers this - anything can and does. I keep telling myself that I must just stop eating after a few bites no matter what. My question was/ is / do other g b p patients also experience this condition.

This question has not been answered yet - I don't have the dumping syndrome as I understand it. Is this common for g b p patients to almost pass out after eating ? that they have to lay down and sleep ? even if the meals are modest ? What I eat is modest compared to a normal person.
