I had the Gastro-by-Pass, Roux n y operation, on May 22, 2001. Now, trouble, Almost all the time when I eat something, I feel badly, and like eating ''' knocks me out.''' I often have to lay down, I get sleepy, like today. I ate breakfast, eggs, half toast, coffee, just fine with no problem, early , at 1500 then, then a few - literally 5 or 6 bites on a small plastic spoon, of macaroni salad, then had to force myself to stay awake to drive home in the middle of the afternoon. I slept for almost 2 hours then, woke up ok. This happens to me a lot. I eat just a small amount, but it ''puts me down'', or ''knocks me out'' . I still vomit violently on occasion after I eat, and I have no idea what or how much will be responsible for causing this. It can be anything, at any time, Family members are amazed at my problems at this point. I eat small amounts of food, so it seems to me, but much of it makes me feel sick. I am a little frightened about the falling asleep thing.

My doctor ? What a laugh these days. He simply says, ''Lose weight. Stay on a diet.'' and actually does not respond to my asking him this except to blow this off like its not important. He is not a bariatic doctor, he is a family general md. I have considered going back to the bariatic surgeon who originally did my GBP but just have not done so. I guess your question is telling me that this is what I need to do. I don't even know if the surgeon accepts the lousy medical insurance I have now but I'll find out. I asked JA to know if this has been a known common situation with GBP patients.

I would get a test called a gastric emptying study done.

See the bariatric surgeon for sure.
