My friend just completed the credit counseling session that precedes filing for bankruptcy. How can we find a local attorney (San Diego, CA) for the next step who will work pro bono?

The Federal District Court For the Southern District of California has formally adopted a pro bono attorney plan (click here). However, the Bankruptcy Court for the same district has not adopted a pro bono plan. You can contact the District Court Clerk and ask whether or not the pro bono panel accepts bankruptcy cases -- and if so, then how to contact a panel attorney.

If that doesn't work, then the only other suggestion that I have is:

Legal Aid Society of San Diego, Inc.
Program Phone:(NNN) NNN-NNNN
Legal Assistance:(NNN) NNN-NNNN

Hope this helps.
