If a attorney who is retained by American Express to contact

Customer Question

If a attorney who is retained by American Express to contact about a credit card I may or may not have had with amex and is now in default......if that attorney does not validate the debt within 30 days of receipt of my validation letter to him/her can that attorney contact me any more about said debt?

Hi JACustomer,
The 30-day debt validation rule is pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which is applicable to collection agencies only, and not to the original creditor. This means that, unfortunately, any attorney retained by American Express would not have to abide by this rule.

I think this is what you wanted to know. If not, please let me know.
Thank you.
