Many children with Asperger Syndrome meet the criteria for other conditions. For instance, their obsessions might be considered Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The same is the case for ADHD...most children with AS have these symptoms. When I write up a diagnostic report I will often make Asperger the umbrella diagnosis with other syndrome beneath. For instance:
Asperger Syndrome with
ADHD
OCD
Anxiety
Depression
So AS is the main diagnosis and describes the social and though problems but the other labels describe the behaviors which are also seen (because, as you know, each child with AS is different.
What is important is the medication that is used. If the ADHD symptoms are there, then it is worth trying the medication to regulate attention. If the OCD interferes with daily activities, then an anxiety medication may help.
