I think I've been misdiagnosed as ADHD with severe

I'm reading the webpages from the links, but most of these doctors cater to Autism, not Asperger's. I'm 30 years old, and I think someone just let me be "different" my whole life. I need to find a doctor who won't charge a huge sum of money just to screen me. Reading all of the articles on Asperger's makes me understand that I might not have some "random" collection of psychiatric problems that makes it complex to treat. When you take away the labels and just look at the big picture, it's as clear as day that this might be the answer.
I always got picked on at school.
I was a nerd, in gifted and talented classes.
I'm an only child, and I prefer solitude, but when I'm out, I talk excessively (I'm manic)
I get easily overwhelmed when work piles up.
I can't keep a steady job, and never have been able to remain with the same employer for longer than a few months.
I lose my train of thought in the middle of a sentence, especially when someone stops me.
I like mathematics, music theory (drumming is math to me), and fixate on being musically gifted.
I overexplain things, but I can write research papers that are on the same level as a Master's Thesis.
I notice EVERY spelling and punctuation error when I read a document.
I'm unnerved by crowds.
I have been reading since age 3.

Just tell me, based on all that, is it likely I have undiagnosed AS, especially when you set aside the diagnoses of ADHD/anxiety/ocd/insomnia? Please help me find more resources. This is difficult for me because I never thought I could have a disorder that people view as so closely related to Autism.

By the way, I had already completed this questionnaire. I scored a 47, which, if that's their best tool in diagnosing adults, I'd say that AS is very likely. I was not diagnosed with ADHD until adulthood, nor did I have severe anxiety disorders rendering me chemically dependent on benzodiazepines, but I have been high strung my entire life and constantly feel under pressure.

I just want to answer the question, "What IS WRONG with me and why can't I function like every other adult?" As stressful as a diagnosis of AS would be to me, it would also alleviate a lot of tension, because I have a wonderful boyfriend who has been by my side for seven years, and he just wants to see me get better. We've discussed the possibility of this, and he would just be happy that there's an explanation and different ways to modify the way we react to one another to accommodate it. I also don't like being chemically dependent and if there is a way to reduce the number of medications I take by simply modifying my environment and lifestyle, I would be very content.

Some people are content knowing who they are and what they are. When it comes to the realm of psychiatric disorders, those of us who suffer the most only want to know "WHY" they are.

I will accept your answer because you have been extremely helpful. I will call the Houston number tomorrow and see what it will take to be screened. I would ask you as a favor, if you have ANY more information about diagnosing adults with Asperger's, to please continue to reply.

I actually have a friend who was diagnosed at age 27, and I never knew (just noticed that he was a little....different) for five years before he told me he has Asperger's. I was shocked at the time, but it did explain a lot about the nuances of his behaviors. He told me several years ago after he had a horrible panic attack.

I think I can understand him now.

Please feel free to share anything else that will aid me in finding a professional who will evaluate me. If this is what I have, at least I will know, and I can move forward with my life content that at least I know why I am and always have felt like I never have fit in.
